Welcome to The Brockovich Report
A newsletter for those ready to get out of this mess, talking about the national water crisis, toxic chemicals, and other problems in your backyard.
Welcome to The Brockovich Report by me, Erin Brockovich, author of Superman's Not Coming. I’ve been exposing injustice and lending my voice to those who don't have one for many years, and I want to help others who are fighting environmental issues get into action. I’ll show you how.
Many of you know me from an Oscar-winning film starring Julia Roberts, but I’m a real person and I’ve been helping real people with problems just like the ones portrayed in that movie for almost 30 years now.
Unfortunately, these issues have become more widespread and people don’t even realize that we have a major water crisis in our country and around the world today. See here, here, here, here and here for more of my thoughts on this crisis.
I get thousands of emails and messages every month from all kinds of people who need help and my hope is that this platform can help us stay connected and learn more about these important issues together.
Why Water Matters
Good health begins with clean water and without access to that, it’s game over for all of us. I’m sick of large companies polluting small towns and getting away with it. I’m tired of our regulatory agencies not doing their jobs.
I’m not a lawyer, a scientist, or a politician; but I am someone who gives a damn and I know if you’re reading these words, you do too. I’m here to tell you that you don’t need a PhD or a law degree to speak up in your community and make it a better place for all.
I believe that in my lifetime consumers will become the regulators. It’s time to rise up and create a movement that exposes these issues and cleans them up, before it’s too late.
For years, I’ve been teaching one simple concept: Superman is not coming. We need to be the ones to save ourselves. And listen, even if Superman was coming, how long would it take him to clean up all of these communities? We all need to join this mission.
Sign up now so you don’t miss the first issue, where we’ll be talking about one of the most important issues in water today: forever chemicals and how you have probably been exposed to them. Plus, how you can protect yourself!
The content here will include many other environmental concerns and ways you can become more involved.
Like any movement, I’m not in this alone. I’ll be sharing interviews and information from some amazing experts and advocates in the field. You’ll be hearing a lot from me and from one of my most trusted colleagues Suzanne Boothby, the executive editor of this newsletter helping steward the journalism side of things, researching these topics, and making sure all of our stories have sources and links.
Paying Subscribers Help Make This Possible
If you feel inspired by my work and want to support it, all paying subscribers will have access to town-hall style chats with me. You’ll be able to ask me questions and get answers.
Subscriptions help make sure we have well-researched stories and someone to follow-up with you. Plus, we’ll take a $1 from each monthly subscription to help fund organizations dealing with toxic issues. I know so many of you want to help and this makes it easy for you to get involved.
*If you don’t have the funds right now to become a subscriber and want to join this fight, just ask and we’ll add you to the list.
In the meantime, tell your friends!
