Many thanks for this reporting, Erin. However, you did not mention the waste heat production of the Data Centers, the average electricity useage on which is 50MW. We have over 5,000 of these monsters in the US. At the very time in earth's history when the world is obviously suffering from the ultimate environmental effects of fossil fuel burning, which can be seen in 1.2T tons of melting global ice and the 321 M cubic miles of heating oceans, the very last thing we need is more waste heat producing tech.
How many citizens are already sick or diagnosed with illnesses in these areas and don't even realize it was the poisoning of water from big corporations!?
I'm tired of corporations paying settlements and moving on. They need to be shut down and put in prison!

Erin, I am begging you. Please look at this article written by a man who lives near me. He lays out EXACTLY what is happening in our community outside of Washington DC. We are in the fight of our lives, and would be eternally grateful were you to attach your well regarded name to our cause. The case the developers brought against our referendum committee goes to Maryland's Supreme Court next Tuesday, 6/30/26. This is after 21,000 of us were ruled against in our desire to put the data center issue on our ballot in the fall.
I did wonder why all the big push to build data centers now. They want to put them in place before we all find our water totally polluted with PFAS and demand they stop. We really need to organize and take out the oligarchy before the billionaires kill us all.
Same old story line, profits are more important than health and safety, also apparent in the court's recent decision in the Bayer / Roundup case. Glyphosate's not only linked to various cancers but emerging research has found correlation's with the rising cases of early onset gastrointestinal cancers. And the worst part, the companies (aided by lax government oversight) know what they're doing and obviously don't care.
Scientists Completed a Toxicity Report on This Forever Chemical. The EPA Hasn’t Released It.
Agency scientists found that PFNA could cause developmental, liver and reproductive harms. Their final report was ready in mid-April, according to an internal document reviewed by ProPublica, but the Trump administration has yet to release it.
I don't know if this is going to play out exactly like you think. PFAS regulation is already heavily watched, but you know more about that than me. More importantly, two-phase immersion cooling is going to be completely obsolete pretty soon. Direct-to-chip liquid cooling -- the method that is dominating and will continue to dominate for the forseeable future -- uses significantly less (or no) PFAS. Direct-to-chip is simply just better and more energy efficient while also complying much more with EPA regulations and ESG considerations. I linked a couple articles below.
