The lack of preparedness and kicking that can and ignoring/deflecting what is right in front the people who are suppose to protect us, comes down to two things.....lack of integrity and greed. The hardest part is realizing some of the people involved in these alleged cover ups are people you may have grown up with. Smoke and mirrors is defined as “Something that is intended to make you believe that something is being done or is true, when it is not.” (Cambridge Dictionary)

Kicking the can is euphemism for dead. Maybe they are dead in the head?

Hello Erin, we are a cancer support group here in Derry North Of Ireland. We are the only town in the North with a DuPont factory. Over the years it has produced Lycra, Nylon, Kevlar, Teflon and Neoprene.A spin-off company based at the Maydown site, Invista, now produces Lycra while the DuPont factory produce Kevlar. We are renowned for many things in Derry not least Civil Rights movement, The Troubles etc but we now have the highest rates of cancer especially prostate and lung cancer which after the council conducted an enquiry into, stated it was smoking related and offered cessation courses. We are now famous for the discovery of the largest illegal dump site in Europe called Muobuoy, currently undergoing a criminal investigation and so we are not allowed to speak about it. We are very keen to hear what we redress we should be pushing for? How do we go about testing for certain chemicals in our water as Muobuoy dumps are near the Faughan River and Dupont factories which supplies our drinking water. Any help would be greatly received. Hi Jacquie,

Glad you have a support group! There's no right or wrong way to organize, but some things to consider: identify what chemicals are in the water and/or soil. Many times, you can obtain a water report from your town or the water treatement plant. Some communities find independent labs to test. Sometimes, you can obtain records from Dupont or the polluting party. Find community partners: a professor, students, scientists, anyone willing to help the cause and help you gather info/make a case.

We have a step-by-step process here too: https://www.thebrockovichreport.com/p/9-steps-you-can-take-in-a-water-crisis

Just keep going, each day you will learn as you go!
