There is a project in Gilroy, CA. Rumor has it that it got approved in a similar way to the Imperial Valley data center.

Have you been following the data centers in Virginia? In Prince William County, Blackstone's QTS data center was stopped after the center's flawed approval status was challenged. This was adjacent to the Manassas Battlefield. Federal officials were also considering a land swap that would allow another developer to build at least four data centers next to Prince William Forest Park in close proximity to Quantico Creek, a pristine waterway in Northern Virginia.

Hi, Anne -- I'm in MoCo, Md and we've just begun an 18-month moratorium, but I'm greatly concerned about the details tbd. I keep sending data w/links to our county council and exec but now I'm expanding to Gov Moore and others. It's a nightmare and oh so stupid once one does a small amount of digging. Have our officials been bought or something? Hope not.

Of interest…

- Amazon is spending $1 billion to win over towns fighting its data centers: https://www.techspot.com/news/114098-amazon-spending-1-billion-win-over-towns-fighting.html

* Noting that more than 100 data center moratoriums are being considered across the country, Garman warned that if these measures are enacted, the US "could be writing its own losing ticket" in the AI race, and that the consequences would last generations.

And another that ain’t so great for the Mid-Atlantic region:

- Google enters massive 3.6-GW power deal with Constellation Energy: https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/google-enters-massive-3-6-103617083.html

* The ‌deal will enable more than $4.3 billion of new investment by Constellation and involves adding capacity at several of the power company's nuclear reactors in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, the companies said.

* In the latest arrangement, Google entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement for 890 megawatts of electricity from multiple Constellation-owned nuclear power plants, which would be upgraded to produce more electricity from existing reactors.
